International fellowships send students abroad

Cultural Immersion:
Qatar and Saudi Arabia

Two McDaniel juniors spent their holidays learning about new cultures after earning prestigious fellowships for study abroad.

Bilal Ali and John Collins received international exchange fellowships to Qatar and Saudi Arabia from the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations for their participation among a team of nine McDaniel students in the Model Arab League.

Ali and Collins were both provided with expense-paid study visits, and are expected to share their new knowledge of the nations they visited during their year-long fellowships.

Peter Mark Kendall ’08 in three series

Tune In to Watch Rising Star

TV viewers will be seeing a lot of actor Peter Mark Kendall ’08, who has recurring roles on three acclaimed series set to debut or return this month.

On HBO’s award-winning "Girls,” starring Lena Dunham, he plays Jeffrey, a classmate at the Iowa Writer’s Workshop with Dunham’s character Hannah. More than half of the scenes are improvisational, a method Kendall, 28, says he really enjoyed.

Kendall also has a recurring role on MTV's new cyber-crime police drama, “Eye Candy,” which debuted this month. On Jan. 28, the spy drama, “The Americans,” resumes on FX with Kendall in another recurring role.

Alums and Parent Serve in Afghanistan

College Connections Around the Globe

It was far from a typical gathering of McDaniel alumni and parents, but the photo of 2nd Lt. Ashley Meister ’13, Sgt. Maj. Thomas Suraci and Chief Warrant Officer 3 Jack Olsh ’92, ’93 in Bagram, Afghanistan, was shared all over social media from the instant the college posted it.

We thought you might want to know a little bit more about the faces in the photo and their McDaniel connections. All three are members of the Maryland National Guard who are part of the 1100th Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group Headquarters currently deployed to Afghanistan and Kuwait until April.
