Art students showcase their work in juried show

April 02, 2012

The annual Kathryn E. Wentz Juried Undergraduate Exhibition at McDaniel College highlights the best artwork by students. The exhibition runs April 3-13 in Rice Gallery, Peterson Hall. An opening reception is 7-9 p.m. April 3.

All students in the college’s department of Art and Art History are invited to submit up to five pieces of art that they have done while studying at McDaniel for inclusion in the exhibition. Works not selected for the exhibition are then considered for the annual “Salon Des Refuse” exhibition, which is held April 18-28 at the Carroll Arts Center, with a reception 5:30-7:30 p.m. April 19.

Professional artists and art educators serve as jurors for the exhibition. Current jurors are Nora Sturges, professor of Art and head of drawing and painting at Towson University, and Stewart Watson, exhibitions director for the Area 405 gallery in Baltimore’s Station North Arts and Entertainment District.

During the opening reception, the two jurors announce the eight award winners for Best in Show, First, Second, and Third places, three honorable mentions, and a Foundation Award that is open to work done in Drawing One (Perceptual Drawing and Design).
