College students volunteer for Westminster Clean Up
About 130 students, 90 from McDaniel College and 40 from Carroll Community College, teamed up for the third annual Westminster Clean Up on April 28.
The students volunteered with nonprofit organizations, including the Boys & Girls Club, Caring Carroll, Shepherd's Staff and Westminster Library, as well as participated in improvement projects at Dutterer Park, King Park and Belle Grove Square, among others.
Seniors Steve French and Sara Krome both of New Windsor, Md.
“It’s a great opportunity for the students to discover Westminster city gems that are within walking distance from McDaniel,” said Tara Kaley, Acting Director of the Center for Community Outreach and Service. “It’s also an informal chance for Carroll Community students, who will most likely transfer to McDaniel, to chat with McDaniel students about the college.”
Kaley worked with McDaniel alum Kim McShane, ’11, the AmeriCorps VISTA at Carroll Community College. This is McShane’s first year working with the Clean Up, and she hopes she will be able to continue to coordinate with McDaniel for this and other community events.
