Director of McDaniel’s Hoover Library named

August 06, 2008

Jessame Ferguson is the new director of McDaniel’s Hoover Library.

Job one for the former Head of Public Services at the University of Maryland Baltimore County’s Albin O. Kuhn Library and Gallery is to get well acquainted with students and faculty – and to find out what they need and want from the library.

“My plans for Hoover Library include developing programs, services and a physical environment that directly support the students’ and faculty's needs,” Ferguson said. “Communication and discussion with the McDaniel College community will best enable us to develop and position the Hoover Library to meet these goals.”

Literature – especially world-culture literature and minority voices in American literature – is Ferguson’s first love. She enjoys multicultural festivals on campus and off, museums and music of all kinds, frequenting the symphony as often as she can. Still, the graduate of the University of Massachusetts and Louisiana State University is just as comfortable hiking, biking and doing the backstroke across a spring-fed lake.

Ferguson has also completed academic work at Oxford University’s Trinity College, Anne Arundel Community College and University of Maryland College Park. In fact, McDaniel’s campus reminds her of Oxford.

“This campus is lovely and reminds me of my summer experiences at Oxford University where the campus history and the traditions are woven into the new and exciting college experiences,” she said. “McDaniel is exactly the type of institution that I knew would be perfect for me. I love small liberal arts colleges where you can really get to know the students and your colleagues and work side-by-side to make the college experience the best for each generation of students.”
