September 17, 2013

SmartTALK with sports agent Jim Naughton ’94 and the Theatre Arts student production of “Pygmalion” headline a packed schedule of Family Weekend activities and are open to the public.

The Oct. 4-6 Family Weekend event is the perfect opportunity to have your favorite student show you what life is like at McDaniel College while enjoying tailgating on the rim of McDaniel’s famed drive-in stadium and cheering the Green Terror against Gettysburg, meeting professors, finding out about special opportunities for student-faculty research collaborations, study abroad and Jan Term, discovering the new Center for Experience and Opportunity (CEO) and Global Initiatives programs, sitting in on classes and even savoring meals in the award-winning Englar Dining Hall.

Pres. Roger Casey leads a conversation with sports agent Jim Naughton during SmartTALK at 11 a.m. Oct. 5 in the Decker Center Forum. SmartTALK is free and open to the public.

Naughton serves as an attorney, agent and contract advisor for Alliance Sports Management. He coordinates the daily client-servicing and player-related matters such as contract negotiations and marketing/endorsement opportunities and has researched and assisted in negotiating and procuring multi-million-dollar contracts for clients in the National Basketball Association.

Naughton’s experience in these areas extends to other leagues such as the NBDL, CBA and USBL, and he’s developed a niche specialty working on more than 360 contracts to place basketball players in professional leagues all over the world. He received his B.A. in Political Science in 1994 at Western Maryland College (now McDaniel), where he was a two-sport athlete, playing both basketball and winning two conference championships in golf. He graduated from the Widener University School of Law.

The Family Weekend schedule and registration is available online.

Pygmalion” is on stage at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2-5 in WMC Alumni Hall. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors, students, and the McDaniel College community.  For more information, call the box office at 410-857-2448.
