‘McDaniel Alert’ protects students

Feb 21, 2008

With safety a critical issue on campuses nationwide, McDaniel College has instituted an emergency alert system to notify students in the event of imminent danger or a life-threatening campus emergency.

The McDaniel Alert is powered by TechRadium’s Immediate Response Information System. The system sends messages from school officials to thousands of registered users within 30 seconds. Critical messages are sent via telephone (TTY), cell phone, fax, wireless PDA device or email.

“We encourage students, faculty and staff to sign up for this potentially life-saving program,” says Campus Safety Director Mike Webster. “It takes just minutes to register for the McDaniel Alert.”

Each student, faculty or staff member can enroll up to five emergency contacts. Personal data is held under the highest security standard in existence.

“Keeping students safe is our number one priority,” says Vice President of Student Affairs Beth Gerl. “We’re confident that we’ll be able to notify our students immediately in case of any emergency.”
