McDaniel announces newest members of Phi Beta Kappa

May 02, 2011

President Roger Casey addressed the newly inducted members, 37 graduating seniors and four juniors, of McDaniel's Delta of Maryland Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, on May 1 as the chapter marked its 31st anniversary.

For the second year, the Delta Chapter chose to elect a limited number of juniors to the prestigious national honor society – as is standard practice among many other chapters – to establish a continuing Phi Beta Kappa presence on campus. The officers decided to induct 1 percent of juniors and 9 percent of seniors this year.

Casey, who was inaugurated as the College’s ninth president on April 16, holds Phi Beta Kappa membership from Furman University where he earned his baccalaureate.

Founded in 1776, Phi Beta Kappa is the nation’s oldest academic honor society.  It has chapters at 280 colleges and universities, and over 600,000 members.
