McDaniel College is named a ‘best value’ private college by Kiplinger’s personal finance
McDaniel College is among the top liberal arts colleges named a “Best Value” by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, and the only Maryland liberal arts college to make the list. The rankings are available online, and will be published in the magazine’s December issue (on newsstands Tuesday, November 8).
The 200 colleges and universities that make Kiplinger’s list provide strong academics and affordability. Colleges and universities are assessed based on cost and financial aid, competitiveness, academic support, graduation rates, and student indebtedness.
According to Kiplinger, “This year’s top 100 liberal arts colleges excel…providing the academic support that encourages learning and allows students to graduate on time.
They also make their education affordable by offsetting tuition hikes with generous need-based financial aid and, at many schools, offering merit scholarships to students who don’t qualify for need.”
At McDaniel College, 90% of first-year students receive merit and/or need-based financial aid to offset the sticker price (tuition, fees, books, room and board). McDaniel has recently been lauded for its net-price calculator. Required by all colleges and universities by October 29, net-price calculators give prospective students and their families an estimate of what the actual net costs would be to attend a specific institution.
In addition to Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, McDaniel was included in the first tier of national liberal arts colleges by U.S. News & World Report and was the highest-ranked private Maryland liberal arts college in Washington Monthly’s annual college rankings. McDaniel was also one of 70 colleges and universities in “America’s Best Kept College Secrets” and was included in Parade Magazine’s A-list as one of America’s Top 25 Liberal Arts Colleges.
Dr. Roger Casey, president of McDaniel College, said, “McDaniel is getting the national recognition it deserves as one of the leading liberal arts colleges in the country. What sets McDaniel apart is our student-centered curriculum delivered in small classes by dynamic faculty offering our students the flexible learning plans to prepare them for their future. Access is another hallmark of McDaniel with 40% of this year’s freshman class among the first generation in their families to attend college.”
