McDaniel students complete Duke of Edinburgh’s program
Forty-two students received Duke of Edinburgh medallions at the annual Community Engagement luncheon held May 1.
To qualify for this award, students complete a four-step self-development program dedicated to achievement in community service, physical fitness, special skills, and adventurous journey. McDaniel is one of the first colleges in Maryland to embrace this program, founded in 1956 by Britain’s Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
Also recognized at the annual luncheon were Hayoung Kim ’13 and Kamiko O’Rullian ’16 as Griswold-Zepp Student Volunteerism awardees. Kim, a Political Science and International Studies major and winner of the Newman Civic Fellows Award, traveled to Nicaragua where she tutored young children as a volunteer with La Esperanza Granada; and O’Rullian traveled to Ghana, West Africa on a mission trip to develop freshwater wells and provide school kits to young children.
