New live video streaming partnership for Athletics beginning with first home football game
As the 2013 football season kicks off with the first-ever night game at Kenneth R. Gill Stadium this Sat., Sept. 7, McDaniel College’s Department of Athletics launches a new live internet video stream of all home athletic events.
This partnership with BoxCast allows for video streaming of all home football, field hockey, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, lacrosse and track and field contests available via the McDanielAthletics.com website. Fans can access through the “Video” link on each sport’s schedule and results page with their desktop or laptop computer, smartphone or tablet. Game coverage will no longer be provided by the College’s longtime partner WTTR 1470. However, McDaniel continues to support the station as a primary sponsor of the Carroll County High School Athlete of the Week program.
“We are excited to bring the entire production in-house to allow McDaniel students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in broadcast production,” said Director of Athletics Paul Moyer. “For football season, the broadcast will feature a student-run four-camera production with graphics, as well as professional play-by-play and color commentary.”
Video streaming of athletic events gives parents, family members and friends of student-athletes the opportunity to follow the live action of all of McDaniel’s home games, particularly for those unable to attend in-person.
Those who choose to watch the video streaming in standard-definition can do so at no charge. Planning is underway to offer viewers the option to upgrade to a high-definition version for a nominal fee ($5.95 per contest).
Green Terror away football games will still be carried via an internet-only audio broadcast, allowing fans to tune in for all 10 regular-season games and any postseason contests. The opportunity will also exist to carry men’s and women’s away basketball games as an internet-only audio broadcast.
The format for home football games will remain the same with the pre-game Green and Gold Kickoff Show airing 20 minutes prior to kickoff. Halftime programming will feature a Green Terror athlete and a postgame show wraps up the day’s action with an interview with head coach Mike Hoyt.
The Green Terror opens the football season at home against Catholic on Sat., Sept. 7. Game time is 7 p.m. Gates will open three hours prior to kickoff, and admission is free. Parking on the field is $10 per vehicle (cash only, payable at the gate.)
