New trustee joins McDaniel Board

Richard W. Palmer will join the Board of Trustees at its next full meeting in October 2012.

His career in investment management has included success as a portfolio manager and vice president at T. Rowe Price (1969-89), as vice president and partner at Alex Brown Investment Management (1989-2008), and as partner at Brown Advisory after its purchase of Alex Brown Investment Management in 2008.  

Palmer served on the board of the former Lutheran Hospital in Baltimore from 1974-86 and as its vice chairman from 1981-94.

In 2011, he was elected to the advisory board of the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in Saratoga Springs, New York.

Palmer spent nearly two decades investing a portion of the College’s endowment during his tenure at both Alex Brown Investment Management and Brown Advisory until he retired in June 2011.

Palmer earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics at Colgate University in New York. He and his wife, Susan, established a scholarship at McDaniel in 2008 that annually awards support to a deserving student from Baltimore City.
