Professor joins Maryland sport fishing commission
Students learn much from savvy Political Science Professor Herb Smith – most importantly, how to form their own opinions. A new part-time assignment for Smith lures him outside the classroom to weigh in on the politics of Maryland’s sport fishing as he will serve a four-year term on Maryland’s Department of Natural Resources Sport Fisheries Advisory Commission. One of 12 people appointed by Governor Martin O’Malley, Smith will help promote recreational fishing and inspire environmental stewardship.
Not to worry, while summer may find this talented professor fishing at the edge of Deer Creek in northern Maryland, he’ll be back on campus for fall semester to teach American politics and possibly lead the January Term eco-adventure for students to Belize for deep-sea fishing, snorkeling and diving.
