Paige Messersmith and Katie Corson have been named to the All-Centennial Conference field hockey team as McDaniel heads to Alvernia Nov. 7 for the first round of the 2012 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Mid-Atlantic field hockey tournament.
Messersmith, a senior midfielder from Phoenix, Md., repeated her first-team selection from a year ago as a unanimous selection. Messersmith has started all 17 games and leads the team with a program single-season record 16 goals and 40 points. Her 16-goal record is second in the CC while her 40 points ranks third. She is second on the squad with eight assists and has added a team-high five defensive saves.
Corson, a graduate student forward from Ocean View, N.J., has started all 17 games and has a team-best 10 assists, which matches the program record for a single season. She is second on the team with 22 points while her six goals rank fourth. Corson's 10 assists are third in the league.
In ECAC tournament play, the Green Terror (9-8) earned the No. 5 seed and will take on the fourth-seeded Crusaders (10-9) in the quarterfinals of the eight-team tournament. McDaniel is making its second straight ECAC appearance.
The winner of Wednesday's game will meet the winner of the matchup between No. 1 Wesley (12-9) and No. 8 FDU-Florham (10-10) in one of the Nov. 10 semifinals. The other semifinal will pit the winners of the No. 2 Lebanon Valley (11-8) and No. 7 Drew (12-7) and No. 3 Stevens (13-7) and No. 6 Swarthmore (9-8). Matchups will take place at the site of the highest remaining seed.
