Taylor Herrgott (Derwood, Md./Magruder), a junior on the McDaniel volleyball team, was named the Centennial Conference (CC) Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 13-19.

Herrgott led the Green Terror (10-14, 3-3 CC) to a 1-1 week, averaging 5.50 kills per set. She hit .388 on the week with just three errors in 98 attempts, adding a pair of service aces, eight digs and four total blocks. As part of her 44 kills this week, Herrgott notched a career-best 24 kills in a 3-1 win over Ursinus and knocked down 20 against Dickinson.
For the season, she leads the team in kills (336), hitting percentage (.326) and total blocks (71). Her hitting percentage leads the conference while her kill total is fourth and block total is sixth.

In cross country

McDaniel women placed 10th and the men 11th at Gettysburg Invitational Oct. 18 in warm-up for conference meet also at Gettysburg on Nov. 1. Lindsay Wilson (Catonsville, Md./Seton Keough) finished seventh in a field of 233 runners in the 6,000-meter women’s race to lead McDaniel to a 10th-place finish at the Gettysburg Invitational in cross country action.
On the men’s side, the top four runners for McDaniel all hit personal-best times. Kevin Bowman (Westminster, Md./Brunswick) crossed the line in a time of 26:42.15 to finish 30th overall while Scott Pusateri (Accident, Md./Northern) was 37th overall in a time of 26:25.05. Rob Kelvey (Westminster, Md./Westminster) finished 64th (27:23.29) while Cody Crutchley (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) was 84th (27:39.99)

In field hockey

Third-ranked Ursinus scored a 7-1 victory over McDaniel Oct. 25 in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action. The Bears (13-2, 8-0 CC) built a 5-0 lead at halftime to improve to 12-1 in their last 13 games and become the first CC team to clinch a berth in the upcoming conference playoffs. McDaniel concludes its home schedule at 4 p.m. Oct. 29 against No. 8 Johns Hopkins.

No. 16 Gettysburg won a 5-1 victory over McDaniel Oct 22 in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action. Jessica Largent (Denton, Md./North Carolie) recorded the lone goal for the Green Terror (7-8, 4-3 CC) while Erika Wawzyanick (Wantage, N.J./High Point Regional) made nine saves.

Dickinson shot a 5-1 victory over McDaniel Oct. 14 in Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey action.

In football

A 23-point fourth quarter led Ursinus to a 26-7 victory Oct. 25 over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) football action. The Bears (3-4, 2-3 CC), who trailed 7-3 entering the final quarter, turned three Green Terror turnovers deep in its own end into 20 points to rally for their third consecutive victory in the series. T.J. Develin (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) paced McDaniel (2-5, 1-4 CC) with 47 rushing yards and a touchdown. He also added 15 receiving yards and nine yards in the return game for 71 all-purpose yards.

Fifth-ranked Muhlenberg scored a 49-6 Centennial Conference (CC) football victory Oct. 18. The Mules (6-0, 4-0 CC) spotted the Green Terror (2-4, 1-3 CC) a first-quarter touchdown before scoring 49 points in the next two periods.

In men’s golf

Paul Kovalcheck (Fairless Hills, Pa./Truman) shot a two-round total of 156 Oct. 19 to lead McDaniel to an eighth-place finish at the McDaniel Fall Invitational in men’s golf action on Sunday and Monday at Piney Branch Golf Club. The Green Terror combined to card a two-round score of 644, finishing with a 321 on Oct. 19 and a 323 on Oct. 20. Washington and Lee won the 10-team invitational with a total of 615 (306-309). McDaniel opens the spring season with its own invitational at the Bridges Golf Club on Mar. 28-29, 2009.

In women’s golf

Elyse Massa (Wescosville, Pa./Emmaus) carded a two-round total of 181, posting rounds of 90 and 91, respectively, to lead McDaniel to a team victory in its own women’s golf invitational on Oct. 19-20 at Piney Branch Golf Club. The Green Terror posted a round of 372 Oct. 19 and a 373 Oct. 20 to win the four-team tournament by six strokes with a combined total of 745. SUNY Cortland was second with a score of 751 after recording a tournament-low round of 360 in the second round.

In men’s soccer

Swarthmore scored a 4-0 Centennial Conference (CC) men’s soccer victory Oct. 25 over McDaniel. The game was called with 11:07 to play due to lightning and other severe weather in the area and, because the contest had reached its reasonable point of conclusion of 70 minutes per NCAA guidelines, the result was declared final. McDaniel concludes its home schedule against Dickinson at 4 p.m. Oct. 29.

Muhlenberg tallied a 2-1 victory Oct. 18 over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men’s soccer action. The Mules (9-4-1, 3-2-1 CC scored two second-half goals to notch their fourth straight win over the Green Terror (4-8-1, 1-4-1 CC), who only got off six shots compared to the visitors’ 19.

In women’s soccer

Four different McDaniel players recorded goals Oct. 25 in a 4-0 win over Washington (Md.) in Centennial Conference (CC) action. After the Green Terror (5-10, 2-6 CC) saw its scoreless stretch reach more than 500 minutes and its starting goalkeeper out of the game after receiving a red card, McDaniel exploded for four second-half goals to snap a five-game skid. The Green Terror concludes its home schedule at 4 p.m. Oct. 28 against No. 7 Johns Hopkins.

Ursinus notched a 3-0 victory over McDaniel Oct. 18 in Centennial Conference (CC) women’s soccer action.

Dickinson scored a 4-0 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) women’s soccer action.

In volleyball

Sara Hanlon (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) was part of nine of McDaniel’s 13 total blocks to lead her squad to a 3-0 victory Oct. 25 over Washington (Md.) in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action. The Green Terror concludes its home schedule at 7 p.m. Oct. 29 against Johns Hopkins.

Gettysburg and McDaniel participated in the conference’s Digging for a Cure campaign Oct. 22 to raise money for breast-cancer awareness, and the two teams combined for 174 digs with the Bullets scoring a 3-1 Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball victory. The Green Terror (10-15, 3-4 CC) tallied 79 digs and had five players reach double-digit digs, led by 19 by Kristie Fourcade (Ijamsville, Md./St. Johns at Prospect Hall). Gettysburg (14-10, 6-1 CC) recorded 95 digs.

Taylor Herrgott (Derwood, Md./Magruder) recorded a career-high 24 kills Oct. 17 to power McDaniel to a 3-1 victory over Ursinus in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action. Herrgott added an ace and two blocks while hitting .550 in the match. Kristin Nuckles (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) and Kristie Fourcade (Ijamsville, Md./St. Johns at Prospect Hall) contributed to the offense with 21 and 15 assists, respectively.

Dickinson scored a 3-1 victory over McDaniel Oct. 15 in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action.
