Student-Volunteers, Duke of Edinburgh awardees recognized at campus luncheon Students earned awards and applause from campus leadership and community agencies at the annual Student Volunteer Luncheon held May 2 in Decker Forum.The first group of students who completed a four-step self-development program received Bronze medals and certification as Duke of Edinburgh awardees. McDaniel is one of the first colleges in Maryland to embrace this program. Todate, over 800,000 students representing over 130 countries have enrolled in the program founded in 1956 by Britain's Prince Philip.

Griswold-Zepp Award in Volunteerism winner Matt Gill, a graduating Environmental Studies and Music major from Attleboro, Mass., discusses the community service project in which he took 17 students with him to Gary, W.Va., one of the nation’s poorest counties and the site of Matt’s capstone studies in environmental justice in which he focused on stream-water quality, to conduct town improvement projects.


Social Work Professor Jim Kunz (left) and McDaniel President Roger Casey accept the Black Stiletto Trophy from Janice Kispert, CEO of the Rape Crisis Intervention Service of Carroll County (RCIS) on behalf of the more than 80 walkers on Team McDaniel, the top fund-raiser at $4,700 in the April 14 "Walk a Mile in her Shoes" event for being the top fund-raiser.


McDaniel’s football team won the Pres. Roger Casey cardboard cut-out for being the top fund-raising group on McDaniel’s winning "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" team, and Team McDaniel won the Black Stiletto Trophy for being the top fund-raiser participating in the event.
