Theatre on the Hill announces summer shows
“Pump Boys & Dinettes” is an interactive Tony Award-nominated musical revue. The pump boys sell gas on Highway 57 in Grand Ole Opry country and the dinettes run the diner next door. They perform an evening of country-western songs on guitar, piano, bass and even kitchen utensils. “Pump Boys & Dinettes” will run at 7:30 p.m. on June 20, 21, 27, 28 and July 5. Matinee shows at 1:30 p.m. will run June 28 and July 5.
“The actors are also the musicians, so we’re lining up a great cast of actor/singer/instrumentalists,” says Artistic Director Elizabeth van den Berg. “The Pump Boys play keyboard, accordion, guitar and bass. The Dinettes play percussion throughout, including banging on pots and pans.”
The Tony Award-winning “Into the Woods” is a musical fairy tale in which a baker and his wife try to break a curse put on them by the witch next door. On their journey, they meet Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella and Jack in the Beanstalk. “Into the Woods,” meant for young and old alike, will run at 7:30 p.m. on July 18, 19, 25, 26, Aug. 1 and Aug. 2. There will be a matinee performance at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 2.
The play “Anansi: Tales of the Trickster Spider” tells the story of a brave spider's desire to bring stories into the world and the difficult challenges he faces achieving his goal. This play is appropriate for ages 4 and up. “Anansi” will run at 1:30 p.m. on July 12, 13, 19, 20 and 26.
A long-running favorite at Theatre on the Hill, “All That Jazz: Late Night Post Show Revue,” allows the company members to delight audiences with a sassy selection of songs, skits, stand-up and more. “All That Jazz: Late Night Post-Show Revue,” a cabaret-style performance, will run at 10 p.m. June 27, 28, and July 5; 7:30 p.m. on July 11-12; and 10:15 on July 19 and 26.
