‘Top Tailgaters’ TV show featuring McDaniel returns for an encore
The Weather Channel’s Top Tailgaters show, featuring McDaniel as the number 6 tailgating school in the nation, returns for an encore at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27.
Last fall, when the show debuted, all of America found out what the McDaniel community has known for almost a century. Green Terror tailgating is among the best in the nation. The Weather Channel rated McDaniel #6 – ranking the college’s tradition on top with Division I powerhouses Ole Miss (#1), West Point (#5), and the universities of Washington (#7), Tennessee (#2), Michigan (#3), and South Carolina (#4).
TWC’s Top Tailgaters, filmed in September of 2011 when the college’s new Gill Stadium was still a dream, featured hundreds of Green Terror fans lining McDaniel’s drive-in stadium bowl and letter-painted hillside, cheering McDaniel to a 35-14 win over Moravian.
McDaniel is the only college or university included in the top seven that is not a Division I school. Anyone who has ever tailgated at McDaniel knows why – here’s a look back in photos at tailgating on the Hill. Note the changes in the cars parked on the rim of the stadium bowl as you scan the photos from 1928 through 2010.
