Trustees launch national search for college’s next president

August 24, 2009

McDaniel College’s Board of Trustees has begun a national search for its ninth president. The next president will succeed President Joan Develin Coley, who announced her retirement last spring and will complete a decade of exemplary leadership in July 2010.

A Presidential Search Committee, appointed by the Board, includes eight trustees, three elected faculty members, one administrator and one student.  The Committee is broadly representative of the McDaniel College Community, and four of its members are alumni.

Mary Lynn Durham, Class of 1970, trustee and vice-chair of the Board, will chair the Search Committee. Ms. Durham invites “all alumni and members of the campus community to share their views on the search, send suggestions to the Committee, and provide referrals.”

McDaniel retained Myers McRae, one of the most experienced executive search firms in the nation for institutions of higher education, to serve as the professional advisor to the Search Committee. The firm has successfully completed numerous national searches for presidents and cabinet-level appointments for higher education institutions.

The Search Committee encourages comments and referrals from members and friends of the College and higher education communities. The Presidential Search Committee will hold open forums regarding the search on campus during the week of August 31. Additional information about the search is available at
