Vocelli Pizza opens on campus
More than 700 students swarmed the new Vocelli Pizza restaurant at its Sept. 12 opening on campus in Gill Center to sample hundreds of slices of pizza, wings, subs, chocolate chip cookies and more.
The restaurant offers free delivery anywhere on campus, from classroom to residence hall – or students can choose to carry out or eat-in at the dozen or so tables and chairs in Klitzberg Pavilion. Open every day at 4 p.m., Vocelli’s will remain open until midnight Mon.-Wed. and 1 a.m. Thurs.-Sun. with a full menu, including gluten-free options available.
With a dining venue already available in Klitzberg Pavilion, a pizza venue topped the list of student choices. It’s a great opportunity too for grad students to grab a quick slice of pizza just a short walk from Merritt Hall, home of the graduate program.
“Vocelli’s is a family-owned, regional business with only about 100 restaurants, and they have successfully partnered with other campuses similar to McDaniel,” says Beth Gerl, vice president for Student Affairs and dean of students, who donned a apron and handed out samples to hungry students waiting in line for their first taste of Vocelli pizza. “It is a wonderful partnership – Vocelli is a community-centered organization that believes in sustainability initiatives and providing top quality food options to its customers.”
Judging by the opening response and the fact that students are inputting the phone number in their cell phones, Vocelli is headed for success on McDaniel’s campus. Here’s a look at the opening by the numbers of giveaways:
- Subs cut in quarters - 216
- Pizza - 960 slices
- Pepperoni Roll - 360
- Cheese Sticks - 100
