Senior Cicely Hazell to teach English in Turkey
Year Long English
Cicely Hazell, a senior Art History and French double major with a minor in Arabic and Middle Eastern Studies, has been named a Fulbright finalist for an English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) and will spend the 2015-2016 academic year in Turkey.
Hazell chose to travel to Turkey because she is interested in art history and architecture. She also wanted a different travel experience than she has experienced before.
“I look forward to developing lasting relationships and becoming part of the Turkish community,” she said.

McDaniel’s newest graduates stepped off the Hill into jobs in labs and classrooms, with Disney, GotSoccer and more, as accountants, librarians, paralegals and teachers. They’ve been accepted for graduate studies at MIT, Tulane, UMBC, and Johns Hopkins, to name but a few. They’ll serve their country in the Army, National Guard and Army Reserve.
They claim 61 different majors, including three they self-designed, and hail from 15 countries and 23 states. More than one-third have studied abroad on all continents except Antarctica.

Its title, “Sushi, Samurai and Anime,” only hints at the journey the students in professor Robin Armstrong’s Sophomore Interdisciplinary Studies (SIS) course have taken to understand the cultural essence of Japan.
Professors Deb Lemke, Sociology, and Susan Scott, Art History, joined Armstrong, a Music professor, in guiding the students’ exploration of how the cultural products — the art, customs, theatre, music and more — of a society reflect its inherent identity.
The course is a result of a year-long post-doctoral University of Pennsylvania seminar the three professors participated in several years ago.
