Residents in a poor village in India use street theatre as a tool to let officials know their basic needs are not being met. The actors, known as "Chharas," performed one of these tragic plays for students in the Jan Term course "Religion and Cultural Divide in Rural India."

"The students were pretty inquisitive," says Philosophy and Religious Studies Professor Greg Alles. "I think that they managed to explore some important social issues in some depth."

The nine students also enjoyed a performance of Indian classical music, as they traveled from Bombay to Dehli, stopping in several towns along the way.
