Tropical Marine Biology

This picture, of an Elkhorn coral, was taken with digital

cameras used in daily exercises.
Eleven students explored the island of San Salvador, one of the eastern most islands of the Bahamian chain, in the course "Tropical Marine Biology." Led by Biology Professor Sam Alspach, Associate Biology Professor Randall Morrison, and Counseling Director Susan Glore, students explored ecosystems and diverse life within the island's numerous coral reefs.
"Each day, we could pick where we wanted to go based on the winds and the clearest water," Alspach said. "We found lots of little animals in there; brittle stars and sea urchins and sea cucumbers. We even saw a pygmy octopus."
Students complete a small research project based on their experiences. |
