Alumni make new memories with old friends

More than 600 alumni from 24 states including Maryland returned to the Hill April 28-30 for a weekend of making new memories with old friends. The Class of 1961 celebrated 45 years by earning the coveted Top of the Hill award for making the largest total dollar commitments – nearly $1.1 million – in gifts to the Annual Fund, special projects, buildings, and endowment.

The Class of 1971 won the Old Main Award with the largest total commitment of $63,000 to the Annual Fund. The Class of 1956 won the Green Terror Award for the largest percent – 37 percent – of the class making a commitment to the Annual Fund. The Carpe Diem Award was given to the Class of 2001 for a 54-percent increase in giving to the Annual Fund.

The Class of 1981, with 61 alumni and guests, won the Whimsy Award for having the most classmates returning for reunion weekend. The Class of 1986 won the Green and Gold Award, for its 16 reunion volunteers – the most active reunion volunteers.

Throughout the parties at the President's House, the Cinco de Mayo bash and crab feasts, alumni reunited with classmates and friends while learning about the latest and greatest things happening on campus.

Donald Stanton '53 and Barbara Hoot Stanton '53 laugh it up with President Joan Develin Coley. Stanton is President Emeritus of Oglethorpe University.

Rev. Stanley R. Bice '66 and Churalene Bice dig into the Mexican food at the Cinco de Mayo party.

Ruth Bowden Mascari '66 brought daughter Rose and her grandson for the reunion weekend.

Helen Wroe Kline '81, Connie Thompson Bowman '81, Rob Bowman '81 and Barbra Forrey Wahlbrink '81 discuss old times.

Jennifer Bell '01 and Carl Taylor '01 accept the Carpe Diem Award on behalf of the Class of 2001. The award is for the class that has largest percent increase in the number of classmates who made a gift to the Annual Fund.

One year after graduation, Crystal McCubbin '05, Anna Jones '05, Heather Roberts '05, Kim Lowry '05, Sarah LeBarron '05 reunite.
