-The McDaniel College Department of Music presents Student Chamber Music Ensembles at 7 p.m. May 1 in (Little) Baker Chapel. Seventeen students will perform under the direction of Linda Kirkpatrick. The evening will feature an original composition for flute and clarinet by McDaniel student Jessica Nave ’06. The program will include two original works for flute choir, “Mountain Songs” by Jennifer Higdon and “Suite Butterfly” by Phyllis Avidan Louke. Senior Lecturer Bo Eckard, bass, will join the Flute Quartet on Gershwin's "Fascinating Rhythm.”
-The McDaniel College Department of Music presents its student solo recital at 7 p.m. May 2 in McDaniel Lounge. The evening will feature a variety of student instrumentalists and vocalists performing music ranging from classical to contemporary.
-Jazz Night will be held at 8 p.m. May 4 in Decker Center Forum. The evening will feature a variety of groups and vocalists, under the direction of Senior Lecturer Bo Eckard, performing music ranging from jazz standards to contemporary compositions.
-The College Band concert will be held at 7 p.m. May 5 on WMC Alumni Hall Mainstage. The band, featuring 40 McDaniel students and 20 community musicians, is under the direction of Linda Kirkpatrick. The concert will feature the original works for band “Windsprints” by Richard Sancedo and “Folk Song Suite” by Ralph Vaughn Williams; two orchestral transcriptions “Lisa’s Procession to the Cathedral” by Wagner and “The Pines of Rome” by Ottorino Respighi; and music from the Broadway shows “Wicked” and “Riverdance,” and the movie “The Incredibles.”
-McDaniel College Department of Music presents the Gospel Choir in concert at 7:30 p.m. May 6 in Baker Memorial Chapel. More than 50 students will perform an evening of spirituals, traditional and contemporary gospel music under the direction of Music Lecturer Eric Byrd. The pieces include “Looking for You” by Kirk Franklin, “Bread of Heaven” by John P. Kee, and the spiritual “Steal Away.” Soloists include Jenna Layman ’06, Jackie Horton ’06 and Stacy Fitzwater ’07.
