Return to the Hill: Fall 2021

The Return to the Hill (RTTH) Task Force is a leadership committee that meets regularly to develop recommendations for the President and the Board of Trustees as we work to keep the college safe during during the COVID-19 outbreak.

It is with a sense of profound pride and gratitude that we reflect on the last academic year and the many efforts that occurred across campus to keep our community safe. McDaniel showed remarkable success in managing the COVID-19 virus and our community demonstrated its resiliency and care in so many ways. As we look to the future for next academic year, your safety is at the forefront of our minds even as we make plans to return to what we do best—a residential, in-personal educational experience on our beautiful campus.

June 15, 2021 McDaniel College announces Vaccine Policy for Fall 2021

Our vaccination policy is an informed decision based on safety. Though we are beginning to see a return to normal, we remember that we are still in the midst of a public health crisis. We know, and science bears out, that the vaccination is the best way to maintain the health and safety of all members of our campus. With our new vaccination policy, we will maximize the opportunities for us all to be in community again.

March 15, 2021 McDaniel College announces Fall 2021 plans

McDaniel College has announced its plans for Fall 2021, including a return to near-normal operations and face-to-face instruction for undergraduate students. McDaniel is planning for a primarily in-person experience with more than 90 percent of undergraduate classes to be offered as traditional in-person classes and 100 percent of labs. The other 10 percent of classes will mostly be offered in a hybrid format, which includes an in-person component.

Student Vaccination Policy

Proof of COVID-19 vaccination is required for all undergraduate students in the 2021-22 academic year. This requirement applies equally to residential and commuter students, as well as those who have already had COVID-19. It does not apply to graduate students. Any vaccine authorized for use by the World Health Organization is acceptable. For students receiving a vaccine that requires two doses, both doses of the vaccine must be received to meet the requirement.

Students are required to complete the full number of doses of the relevant vaccine no later than September 1, though we strongly encourage students to complete the second dose at least two weeks prior to their return to campus. Students will need to submit vaccine documents to the Wellness Center by emailing If you are a student who participated in the campus vaccine clinic in the spring, your vaccination is already on file.

Please review the vaccination policy in its entirety. If you have questions or comments, they may be submitted directly to the Return to the Hill committee via this online form.
