DEI Initiatives Dashboard
- The Initiatives Dashboard is updated three times per year:
- In September, with the new goals for the academic year;
- In January, with progress made towards goals in the first semester;
- In May, with progress made towards goals over the entire academic year.

Ongoing recommendations have components that are complete, but require continual sustained coordination for long-term success.
All DEI Initiatives for the college are overseen by the Associate Provost for Equity and Belonging. The Dashboard is managed by the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Questions or comments may be directed to odei@mcdaniel.edu.
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Initiatives
- Accomplishments
- Fall 2022: Created electronic survey allowing alumni to self-identify and disseminated to all alumni.
- Spring 2023: Invited various alumni to relevant DEIJ events such as the Black History Convocation, Cecilia E Bowens Phenomenal Woman Awards Banquet, DEI Alumni Happy Hour in Baltimore.

- Continue to collate feedback received and invite all alumni respondents to participate in at least 2 upcoming events on campus.

- Accomplishments
- Fall 2022: Scheduled 10 workshops with key departments throughout campus including the Writing Center, STEM Center, Center for Experience and Opportunity, Library, Campus Safety and community partners who provided financial literacy workshops for 25 students.
- Fall 2022: Established a Life Skills track for the Edge program that taught 20 students and five student mentors about finance and study skills.
- Spring 2023: Plan created to extend the Edge Experience to a 4 year program so that students receive support and gain valuable experience throughout each year at McDaniel

- Fall 2022: During Homecoming Weekend, held the inaugural DEI Alumni Brunch which provided networking opportunities for over 50 current students and alumni.
- Fall 2022: DEI Committee of the Alumni Council met four times to identify opportunities for current students to network and gain mentorship opportunities.
- Spring 2023: Hosted two virtual events connecting students with BIPOC Alumni
- Spring 2023: DEI Committee of the Alumni Council members met with Edge program participants for two events.

- Fall 2022: Established a coalition amongst five faith groups and organizations on campus who will meet three times a year with a goal of providing insight into the role of faith amongst students and establishing events specific to their faith traditions.
- Fall 2022: Hosted the inaugural interfaith service and celebration which will occur annually moving forward.
- Spring 2023: Supported faith-based student organizations through events, dinners, and other faith related activities of interest.

- Fall 2022: Assembled group of faculty and staff to review the results of survey and began to discuss next steps.
- Fall 2022 and Spring 2023: Sessions with faculty, staff, and students generated a list of Key Performance Indicators included in the strategic plan and ODEI AY 22-23 goals, which focused on building community, fostering awareness of implicit bias, and continuing towards inclusive curricula.

- ODEI team will review KPIs and goals accomplished to assess if they are meeting concerns indicated in the DEIJ survey. Additionally, the team will coordinate meetings with various constituents to understand if accomplishments made in AY 22-23 addressed their concerns.

- Fall 2022: Selected 5 community leaders representing local government, non-profits, business and education sectors to serve in the workgroup.
- Fall 2022: Scheduled monthly meetings beginning in January 2023 to discuss, address, and propose solutions for student concerns about bias in Westminster.
- Spring 2023: Held monthly meetings with community leaders to strategize how we will partner with each other in making Westminster more inclusive for all. Plan to continue to develop our community coalition and expand the group.

- Fall 2022: Hosted three new community-building dinners open to all faculty and staff who identified with, or were doing work in, various areas of DEIJ (BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and the Deaf community) resulting in a total of 40 attendees.
- Fall 2022: Associate Provost for Equity and Belonging promoted new opportunities for group and individual conversations for BIPOC faculty to voice concerns, resulting in offering two new workshops on “Rest and Resilience” and “Strategies to Address Burnout for BIPOC Faculty and Staff.”
- Spring 2023: Hosted BIPOC breakfast and professional development.
- Spring 2023: Associate Provost for Equity and Belonging expanded check-ins with BIPOC faculty and staff.

- Fall 2022: Advisory Team comprised of five faculty representatives developed a list of 25 inclusive practices and ideas for faculty to select and implement in their classrooms.
- Spring 2023: List was disseminated to faculty for their use.

- Departments within each division (STEM, Humanities, Social Sciences, GPS) received the inclusive practices list. The Inclusive Education Advisors were available to work with colleagues to incorporate the inclusive practices for their department in the upcoming semester.
