By tradition, the commencement ceremony is a formal, dignified event to honor the academic achievement of our students. McDaniel students work very hard to obtain their degrees as do the parents, families, and friends who help support our students along their journey.

It is very important that all graduation participants and attendees conduct themselves in a polite and courteous fashion throughout the ceremony. To ensure that everyone can hear the names as they are presented on stage, students and guests must refrain from loud, disruptive cheering. Please do not bring balloons, large signs, noise makers, and/or other items that will obstruct viewing or be unpleasant for surrounding guests. As a courtesy to your fellow graduates, you are requested to stay until the conclusion of the ceremony.

Please note: Stiletto heels are not permitted on the turf and are a safety hazard. Students and Guests should wear comfortable walking shoes or wedges that will not catch in the grass or on the turf.

All participants and guests will be required to wear masks, regardless of whether or not they have received a COVID-19 vaccine. McDaniel Commencement masks will be provided to all attendees.

Students are required to wear proper academic regalia to be allowed to process in Commencement. Proper academic regalia for undergraduate and graduate students includes a cap, gown, hood and tassel. Please be sure you have the proper regalia: A Master’s robe differs from a baccalaureate robe. Students who are participating in the ceremony will be required to walk/process a significant distance on uneven, grassy areas and onto the turf at the stadium (estimated to 500 yards.) Students should wear comfortable walking shoes or wedges that will not catch in the grass or on the turf.
Business casual is suitable attire for Commencement. Please no shorts and t-shirts. Shoes should be comfortable for walking between parking areas and the stadium (up to 1/4 mile.) Handicap parking will still require a 300-yard walk to the stadium concourse to enter the Commencement ceremony (Multi-passenger golf carts and shuttle vans will be available to escort those that may have mobility issues.)
