McDaniel College’s highly regarded Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction program is ideal for educators in schools and colleges, as well as those who hold staff development roles within business and social service organizations.

The M.S. in Curriculum & Instruction empowers educators to increase their knowledge and skills in developing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum and in engaging the educational community in these efforts. Current theories, research, and technologies are applied to the improvement of the learning process at all levels.

Admissions Requirements

To be considered for admission, you’ll need to:

  • Complete the application for graduate study
  • Send official transcripts verifying completion of an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university. No minimum GPA required.
  • Submit one official professional or academic letter of recommendation. This link will be emailed to your recommender directly from the application.

Degree Requirements

The requirements for successful completion of the degree include:

  • Completion of 34.5 credits, maintaining a GPA of 3.0 (B) or better
  • 7 core C&I curriculum courses (21 credits)
  • Completion of 4 elective courses (12 credits)
  • Completion of Capstone Experience (1.5 credits)

Guaranteed Capstone Experience

All candidates are given the choice of three capstone experiences. These include: portfolio experience, synthesis experience, and action research experience and take the place of a master’s thesis.

The C&I Program offers multiple paths to leadership in education:

  • Teacher leadership (coaching/mentoring, instructional technology) through instructional and curricular expertise developed in the program.
  • Supervisory leadership (curriculum design, staff development, assessment, etc.) through coursework that leads to Administrator I Certification.
  • School-building leadership through coursework that leads to Administrator I Certification.

Spotlight Profile Alumni Spotlight Rhonda Holmes-Blankenship M.S. ‘05

Rhonda received her master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from McDaniel and teaches English at Rising Sun High School in North East, MD. She was named the 2012–13 Maryland Teacher of the Year and was one of four finalists for the 2013 National Teacher of the Year.
