Economics & Business Administration

Growing up in Trinidad, my interest in economics began in high school. Simply put, I was fascinated by how the study of economics provided answers to decisions I made in everyday life. After my freshman college year, I was invited to become a mathematics tutor. It was this gratifying experience that helped me realize that teaching would be in my future. Working alongside graduate students during a summer REU in my junior year, I became fascinated with the process of research; the challenges, the collaborative dynamic environment, and the results that could make a significant difference in the lives of individuals.

After receiving my bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, I went on to pursue my M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics where I had the opportunity to be a graduate teaching assistant. These personal experiences as a student, tutor, and teaching assistant greatly contributed to my desire and passion for teaching at the collegiate level. I learnt many valuable lessons about teaching during these experiences, but the most significant are how greatly a student’s learning style is impacted by the compatibility of their instructor’s teaching style, and the necessity of adapting and innovating your teaching style in accordance with your students’ needs.

Prior to joining the McDaniel community in 2018, I taught at Occidental College in Los Angeles and Florida International University in Miami. My primary research fields are economic development and applied macroeconomics. My past research has focused on investigating the effect of Child Marriage on the health outcomes of children produced from these unions in Bangladesh. Through my present and future research my ultimate goal is to contribute effective analyses that will help in the formulation policy geared at enhancing the lives of women and the next generation.
