Dr. Julia Jasken has been selected by the McDaniel College Board of Trustees as the college’s tenth president, effective June 1, 2021. Jasken will be only the second woman president in the college’s history. She has dedicated nearly her entire professional life to higher education and most notably to McDaniel, beginning in the classroom in 2003 as an English professor and most recently has served as the college’s executive vice president and provost.
Alumni may have been wondering where the summer issue of The Hill magazine was this year, but they got the answer on Friday, Dec. 11, 2020 when the magazine launched digitally for the second consecutive issue. Although The Hill could not be printed in 2020, a new digital platform ensured the McDaniel College community was able to stay up to date with their friends, classmates, and the college.
McDaniel College has named two new members to its Board of Trustees. Jin Kang of Great Falls, Va., is president and chief executive officer of WidePoint Corporation. Susan C. Stevenson of Ashland, Mass., a 1985 alumna of the college, is an executive director at the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research.
The Daily Record has selected McDaniel College President Roger N. Casey as a 2020 Icon Honors recipient. Icon Honors awards recognize leaders across Maryland in business, law, politics, and nonprofits for their long-standing commitment to Maryland and significant professional accomplishments through innovation and leadership.
Rachel Druckenmiller ’06 has been recognized among The Daily Record’s 2020 Leading Women. The Daily Record’s Leading Women awards recognize women who are 40 or younger for the accomplishments they have made so far in their careers. Druckenmiller, the founder and chief executive officer of Unmuted, LLC, is an award-winning and nationally-recognized thought leader with over a dozen years of experience in the field of workplace wellbeing and culture.
More than 20 McDaniel students were part of the “As You Like It (abridged)” production at the college. Performances were Thursday, November 12, Friday, November 13, and Saturday, November 14 in WMC Alumni Hall. Due to COVID-19, the performances were only open to McDaniel students, faculty, and staff.

As threats to national security increasingly invade American lives, the need has never been greater for professionals in every field with the knowledge and analytical skills to respond to these risks. McDaniel’s new National Security Fellows Program meets this need head on, giving graduates an edge in a surging market of high-paying jobs in private corporations, non-profit organizations, and government agencies alike.
Adaptability, flexibility, and problem-solving skills are all traits McDaniel College has instilled into recent alumni who have begun their first year of teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic. Nearly all of those who graduated with either a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education or a Secondary Education minor or who earned a master’s degree in Teaching as part of the Class of 2020 secured teaching positions this fall.
Social Work professor Jim Kunz and Accounting professor Kerry Duvall have been selected to present in the Centennial Conference’s four-part speaker series, Pillars of Excellence. Kunz and Duvall have collaborated on efforts to educate students on the topic of financial literacy, including workshops to help students better understand their personal finances.
McDaniel seniors Kaitlin Murphy and Anna Kuhn are presenting at the Entomological Society of America’s Entomology 2020 Virtual Meeting with presentations available to be viewed Nov. 11 through Nov. 25. Alumnae Jessica Wyatt ’20 and Suji Kim ’20 also participated as presenters for the event with Holly Martinson, assistant professor of Biology. The meeting features livestream sessions and symposia on Nov. 16, in addition to on-demand symposia, student competition, and 10-minute presentations, posters, and infographics.
