Sophomore Sydney Hinnant was awarded a Griswold-Zepp award from the college for a mental health awareness and support project. The Center for Experience and Opportunity (CEO) at McDaniel oversees the Griswold-Zepp Award, which can total up to $3,000 for proposed volunteer experiences of McDaniel students, addressing the needs of local, regional, national, or worldwide communities.
Ten McDaniel students were awarded Summer Intern Fellowships from McDaniel’s Center for Experience and Opportunity (CEO) to support summer internship experiences. '94 and Timothy Rupe, and The Nora Roberts Foundation.
Dr. Julia Jasken becomes McDaniel College’s 10th president on June 1, 2021. She has dedicated nearly her entire professional life to higher education and most notably to McDaniel, beginning in the classroom in 2003 as an English professor. Dr. Jasken has served in various administrative roles at the college, most recently as executive vice president and provost, overseeing academic and student life.
UPDATE: Life Tacos presented by juniors Julianna Dotterweich, an Accounting, Economics, and Business Administration major from Timonium, Md., and Jessie Titus, an Environmental Studies major from Frederick, Md., earned the $5,000 top prize as the first place winner of the fifth annual McDaniel College Entrepreneurship Competition, formerly the Innovation Challenge Finals. Life Tacos aims at giving people healthier food options that are more affordable and accessible.
McDaniel College student organizations are aiming to help the homeless through the Griswold-Zepp Awards. The student-run organizations submitted proposals centered on giving back to the community through food drives, creating bundles of necessities for those in need, and bringing awareness to nonprofit organizations.
McDaniel College junior Khadijatou Diop hopes to become a more versatile French teacher after earning a $5,000 Gilman Scholarship to study abroad through the virtual French immersion program at Université Laval in Canada. Diop, a French major with a minor in Secondary Education from Columbia, Md., was one of 2,386 undergraduate students from across the nation selected to participate in the prestigious United States Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship Program.

McDaniel College students participate in internships with local nonprofits as part of McDaniel College's Writing for Nonprofit Organizations course. The course strengthens the College's relationship with the Westminster community and gives students firsthand experience by having them complete accredited internships at local nonprofits.
