McDaniel College’s Admissions Office surprised five incoming Class of 2024 students by announcing them as the College’s newest Dorsey Scholars. The Dorsey Scholars Program is the highest academic honor at McDaniel and includes full tuition, room and board for all four years.
Students represented McDaniel College at the Maryland Collegiate Honors Conference, “Leadership in a Time of Change,” held at Harford Community College, Feb. 28-29.
Four senior art students showcase their works in the annual student honors exhibition. Titled “Paraphernalia of Human Experiences,” the exhibition runs Thursday, March 5–Friday, March 27, in Rice Gallery, Peterson Hall. An opening reception takes place Thursday, March 5, 5:30–7:30 p.m., with a gallery talk at 6 p.m.
Jade Enright, a senior Molecular Biology major with a strong Chemistry minor, conducted research at Yale University after being named an Amgen Scholar. Enright worked in a graduate molecular biology lab overseen by a Yale professor and staffed with four post-doctoral fellows, four Ph.D. students and a lab manager.
Connor Norton's study abroad in Brussels began as an adventure and way to fulfill credits and requirements toward his degree, but it evolved into an experience that would forever change the Honors Political Science and Computer Science major’s life.
Like many science majors, Cooper Hostetler wants to make the world a better place through technology. But the McDaniel senior Molecular Biology major’s focus isn’t medicine or engineering or even video game design. Instead he imagines fields of green — literally — producing super food for animals and people.
After Jonathan Nepini finishes his master's in graphic design, he plans to open his own design firm or work for a nonprofit related to environmental conservation in the Chesapeake. His senior honors solo art exhibition show tackled the issue of sea level rise in the Chesapeake Bay region from several different angles ranging from its environmental effects to its effects on the communities that border the Bay.
Garrett Gregoire matter-of-factly points out that his student-faculty research project won’t cure cancer. Perhaps not, but his work does make a real contribution to the field of developmental biology and just might provide the tools that will help some future researcher grow replacement red blood cells in a Petri dish.
