    McDaniel celebrates 153rd Commencement on Saturday, May 20

    McDaniel College celebrates its 153rd Commencement for the Class of 2023 on Saturday, May 20. The graduate ceremony begins at 10 a.m., followed by the undergraduate ceremony at 2 p.m. Both ceremonies take place in the college’s Gill Center. A live stream of both ceremonies will also be available online at www.mcdaniel.edu/commencement.

    Undergraduate and Graduate speakers announced for 2023 Commencement ceremonies

    McDaniel College announces Commencement speakers for the 2023 undergraduate and graduate ceremonies to be held on Saturday, May 20. Undergraduate Commencement speaker is legendary Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist and bestselling author Bob Woodward, while Sharon Love M.S. '76, founder of the One Love Foundation, will provide remarks during the graduate ceremony.

    School Librarianship graduate program receives national recognition

    McDaniel College's School Librarianship master's degree program has achieved national recognition through a review using the current ALA/AASL/CAEP School Librarian Preparation Standards (2019). McDaniel's program has been recognized since 2008 by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) and is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

    McDaniel College Board of Trustees endorses new strategic plan

    McDaniel College’s Board of Trustees voted unanimously to endorse the college’s next five-year strategic plan, “Reaching New Heights: McDaniel College Strategic Plan 2022-2027," which further positions McDaniel as an innovative liberal arts college focused on student achievement and professional success.

    McDaniel certificate program turns alum into a STEM leader

    The STEM Instructional Leader certificate program, developed in collaboration with the National Institute of Aerospace, is an opportunity for educators to become leaders in STEM. Clare Hoerl, a 2021 program graduate, discovered this firsthand when her new approach to teaching STEM earned her school — and McDaniel — a downlink with NASA astronauts.

    Matthew J. Ramsey begins at McDaniel as new coordinator of Human Services Management graduate program

    Matthew J. Ramsey has joined McDaniel College as the Laurence J. Adams Endowed Chair in Special Education and coordinator of the master’s degree program in Human Services Management. He also serves as president and CEO of Target Community & Educational Services, Inc.

    Two McDaniel alums are named Maryland Teachers of the Year

    Two County Teachers of the Year in Maryland are McDaniel alums: Erica McAndrew of Carroll County, who graduated with a bachelor’s in Sociology and a master’s in Elementary Education; and Jorden Lim of Long Reach High School, who graduated with a master’s in Curriculum and Instruction. Both are eligible to be chosen as the 2022 Maryland Teacher of the Year.

    Common Ground on the Hill returns to McDaniel’s campus

    Since 1995, Common Ground on the Hill has hosted its Traditions Weeks of classes in the traditional arts, evening concerts, lectures, and art talks on campus at McDaniel College. Now, after a two-year hiatus, McDaniel is also the location for the 23rd annual Common Ground on the Hill Roots Music & Arts Festival being held Saturday, July 16.

    New scholarship established for graduate students in Human Services Management

    Target Community & Educational Services, Inc., has established a new $25,000 scholarship in honor of McDaniel College’s 10th president, Dr. Julia Jasken. The Dr. Julia Jasken Endowed Scholarship is for a graduate student studying in McDaniel’s Human Services Management master’s degree program.
