Living & Dining

You Define the Good Life

It won’t take long for you to feel at home on the Hill. Whether you live in residence halls, or a campus apartment or house, you’ll be just a few steps from everything, and everyone, on a beautiful hilltop campus where something fun is always happening—often after the sun sets. Your evenings will be full of choices, from karaoke nights to stargazing parties and snowball fights. Autumn weekends are made for home football games and one-of-a-kind tailgating at McDaniel’s unique drive-in stadium. And jaunts to Baltimore hot spots like Fells Point and Federal Hill are always a great option.

Eat

Dig In
What are you hungry for? You’ll find everything to satisfy your craving within a few steps of your front door – and you can choose from a variety of meal plans designed for dorm or apartment living that accommodate your busy schedule. There’s also a fourth meal option if you don’t get a chance, or an appetite, to eat until later at night. You can use meal plan funds at Englar Dining Hall, as well as the Pub, and McDaniel Bucks at all campus dining locations plus many popular local restaurants.

Glar
Start at Englar Dining Hall, better known as Glar, where there’s always a fully stocked salad and soup bar, all kinds of comfort foods – from roasted turkey to freshly made pasta dishes – and the wildly popular Chicken Tender Thursdays. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options are also on the menu while locally sourced and sustainable ingredients are emphasized in all recipes. Twice weekly “theme meals” are planned with student input and include everything from roll-your-own sushi to BBQ & S’mores night.

McDaniel Pub
For a change of scene, there’s also the Pub, which stays open until midnight and is a favorite hangout for kicking back in front of the jumbo TV and munching on classic deli, deep-fried fare and favorites from the grill.

Vocelli Pizza
Located in the Klitzberg Pavilion just next to the Merritt Fitness Center, Vocelli serves up pizza, subs, cheese sticks, wings and other quick meals – including gluten-free options – to take out or eat in at one of several high-top tables in the comfortable social area with big-screen TV. Free delivery is available anywhere on campus.

Green & Go
How convenient, a store right in the center of campus stocked with everything students told us they want, from ice cream and milkshakes to fresh fruits and vegetables to popcorn, yogurt, peanut butter and condiments. Like any convenience store, this one is open late — until midnight most nights and until 1 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.

Caseys’ Corner
Got a craving for really good coffee, pumpkin spice latte or maybe a Frappuccino? Look no farther than Caseys’ Corner, the Starbucks café just inside Hoover Library where you can enjoy all of your favorite treats. Relax in the café’s comfortable seating or carry your tea and muffin into the library — eating and drinking is allowed there too.

The buildings described below are where our first year students are housed on campus. Daniel MacLea Hall in particular, though, will also have upperclass students living there alongside the first year students enrolled in the Honors Program.

As a reminder, if you are a prospective or incoming first year student to McDaniel College, don't forget to read over the FY FAQ!

Daniel MacLea Hall

Daniel MacLea Hall (DMC for short) is a suite style residence hall with approximately 120 beds. The building is divided into 4 sections, with each section centered on a stairwell. In each section, there is a suite on the first, second, and third floors accessible from the stairwell. These suites feature a shared common room, bathroom facilities, and bedrooms for 7-9 students typically. Bedrooms include an XL twin bed, desk, chair, dresser, and a wardrobe unit per student. Each bedroom comes with a microwave/refrigerator/freezer unit as well. Window mounted AC units are provided by the College (although Physical Plant will remove them for storage at some point in the Fall and return them in the Spring in response to the weather/temperature outside). The lower level of the building has a lounge with a flatscreen television, comfortable seating, as well as tables and chairs for working space. The lower level also houses the laundry facilities for the building. DMC sections 1-3 typically house students in our Honors Program as well as incoming transfer students, while section 4 houses a mix of upperclass students. Daniel MacLea is a substance free hall, where alcohol is not permitted even for students of age.

Rouzer Hall

Rouzer Hall is a traditional style residence hall of approximately 190 residents with four residential floors, community bathrooms on the floors, and bedrooms off the corridor. Rouzer Hall is directly connected to the Decker College Center, giving the building's residents very easy access to the Englar Dining Hall and other services. Bedrooms have an XL twin bed, desk, chair, dresser, and a wardrobe unit per student. Each bedroom comes with a microwave/refrigerator/freezer unit as well. Each floor has a lounge area shared by the students with seating and a flat-screen television. There is a laundry room for the building located on the ground floor, and an elevator links the floors along with three different stairwells. Rouzer Hall is a substance free building, where alcohol is not permitted even for students of age.

Whiteford Hall

Whiteford Hall is a traditional style residence hall of approximately 210 students with six residential floors, community bathrooms on the floors, and bedrooms off the corridor. Whiteford Hall is located just outside the Decker College Center. Similar to Rouzer Hall, Whiteford does have an elevator. Bedrooms have an XL twin bed, desk, chair, dresser, and wardrobe closet per student. Each bedroom comes with a microwave/refrigerator/freezer unit as well. There is common lounge space available on the first and ground floors, as well as a a laundry room for the building. Whiteford Hall is a substance free building, where alcohol is not permitted even for students of age.
