10th annual Foreign Film Festival screened Fridays in February

Film Lovers in Carroll County (FLICC) announce the selections for the 10th annual Foreign Film Festival, sponsored by McDaniel College, at the Carroll Arts Center on Fridays in February.

Films begin at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for CCAC members, students and seniors and are available on-line or at the box-office. McDaniel students, faculty and staff are admitted free. All films are shown with English subtitles. The Carroll Arts Center is located at 91 West Main Street in downtown Westminster. Note: “The Intouchables,” originally scheduled to be screened on Feb. 22, has been moved to March 15 at the studio’s request. Previously purchased tickets for this film will be honored on the new date or refunded.  

In keeping with FLICC tradition, the series begins with the film that won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film in the previous year. The schedule is as follows:

Feb. 1
“A Separation” (Iran)

PG-13; 123 mins.
A married couple is faced with a difficult decision – to improve the life of their child by leaving Iran or by staying to look after a deteriorating parent who has Alzheimer’s disease.

Feb. 8
“The Women on the 6th Floor” (France)

Not Rated, 104 mins.
In 1960s Paris, a conservative couple’s lives are turned upside down by two Spanish maids.  A delightful love story.

Feb. 15
“Incendies” (Belgium)

R; 130 mins.
Twins journey to the Middle East to discover their family history, and fulfill their mother’s last wishes. A compelling mystery of family secrets.

Feb. 22
“The Celebration” (Denmark)

R; 101 mins.
When a troubled family gathers for the 60th birthday of its proud and respected patriarch, it quickly becomes apparent that the gathering will not be a light-hearted affair.
