Sophomore soccer players Shane McCracken of Marriottsville, Md., and Meghan Sturgill of Westminster, Md., have been named the Centennial Conference (CC) Men’s Co-Offensive and Women’s Offensive Player of the Week respectively for the week of Sept. 3-9.
Sturgill led the Green Terror (2-0) to its first 2-0 start since 2003 with a pair of goals and an assist in Saturday's 4-2 win over Ferrum. McDaniel also defeated Marymount 4-0 earlier in the week.
In other sports, senior Paige Messersmith of Phoenix, Md., recorded three goals, known as a hat trick, to lead the Green Terror (2-1) to a 5-2 victory over William Paterson in non-conference field hockey action, while cross country runners Chris Jones and Jasmine McCormick finished third in men’s and fifth in women’s 3K races respectively at the Green Terror Challenge.
Messersmith added an assist to her three goals while alumna Katie Corson of Ocean View, N.J., chipped in two goals and two assists.
Junior Jasmine McCormick of Antioch, Calif., finished fifth in the 3,000-meter race to lead McDaniel to a second-place finish Sept. 8 at the Green Terror Challenge in women's cross country action.
The Green Terror scored 75 points in the two races combined. Seton Hill won the combined title with 20 points, scoring 10 in each race. McDaniel was second among the six complete teams in the 5,000-meter race with 41 points. The Green Terror tallied 34 points in the 3K race.
First-year student Chris Jones of Centreville, Va., crossed third overall in the 3,000-meter race to lead McDaniel to a third-place finish Sept. 8 at the Green Terror Challenge in men's cross country action.
The Green Terror scored 113 points in the two races combined. Seton Hill won the combined title with 52 points, including winning the 3K race with 16 points. McDaniel was third in the 3,000-meter race with 40 points. The Green Terror tallied 73 points in the 5,000-meter race.
