Joe Fiore of Point Pleasant, N.J., a senior on the McDaniel baseball team, is named the Centennial Conference (CC) Player of the Week for the week of Apr. 14-20.
Fiore led the Green Terror (14-15, 8-6 CC) to a 3-1 week, hitting .600 in the four games. He went 9-for-15 on the week with three multiple-hit games, including a pair of three-hit outings at Swarthmore. Fiore added a team-best eight RBIs to go with a double and two runs scored. For the season, he is hitting .353 and ranks fourth on the team with 36 hits. His 19 RBIs also rank fourth.
Jasmine McCormick of Antioch, Calif., won the 400 hurdles representing McDaniel at the Mason-Dixon Invitational hosted by Gettysburg in women's outdoor track and field action. McCormick not only improved on her Centennial Conference-qualifying mark but also hit the ECAC-qualifying mark with her time of 1:05.37. Her time ranks second in program history, just 0.26 seconds shy of the record-breaking performance turned in by Claire Lawson of McMinnville, Ore., a week earlier at Johns Hopkins.
McDaniel scored the game's first six goals then staved off a furious second-half rally by Ursinus to notch a key 11-8 Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse victory. Mallory Michel of Lititz, Pa., recorded four goals and two assists to lead the Green Terror (9-5, 5-3 CC), which will secure a playoff berth with a victory at Washington in the April 26 finale but can also earn a bid with other results over the final week of the regular season.
