About The Program

This five-course, fully online Equity and Excellence in Education (EEE) Certificate Program brings together educators to study theory, research, and the practice of teaching and leading for equity in districts, schools, and the classroom. The program also addresses the complex issue of access to educational opportunities for all students, particularly students from marginalized groups.

Who Is It For?

Schools and districts need culturally aware people throughout their organizations. That’s why we designed the EEE program to work for educators in different fields and at different stages of their careers, including:

  • Practicing PreK-12 educators
  • Teachers seeking Equity leadership roles
  • Curriculum developers and supervisors
  • Instructional leaders
  • School and district administrators
  • Counselors

What You Need to Know About the Equity and Excellence in Education Certificate

Admissions Requirements

Applicants to the program must submit:

  • Completed application for graduate study
  • Official transcripts conferring bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution; graduate transcripts if applicable
  • Copy of a Teaching or Specialist Certificate - Maryland State Department of Education Standard Professional Certificate (SPC I or SPC II),  Professional Eligibility Certification (PEC), or Advanced Professional Certificate (APC). Evidence of completion of teacher preparation program via transcript and passing Praxis II scores can be accepted in lieu of teacher certification.  Teachers who hold a license or certification from states outside of Maryland are eligible and must provide a copy of teaching certificate.  Provisional or conditional certificate holders should discuss program options with the Graduate and Professional Studies office

The heavy emphasis on social justice in schools and educational settings requires participants to be familiar with these settings or to have experience working in a closely related organization which has a focus on education

Online, Individualized, In Partnership With Your District

To meet the needs of working adults, the program is offered 100% online. You can enroll in the program through open enrollment, or your district can partner with McDaniel to offer the certificate through a unique partnership. Upon successful completion of the certificate program, you’ll be more equipped to make an impact in your school or district. Our graduates:

  • Become change agents in their own school settings, working to create a more equitable environments for students and families of diverse backgrounds.
  • Expand their capacity as culturally responsive educators who challenge marginalizing cultural norms and institutional racism in curriculum, pedagogy, and learning environments.
  • Develop ways to champion culturally responsive teaching within their own organizations and promote systemic change in public schools and the communities in which they work.
  • Grow more skilled in creating and influencing education policies that positively affect both classrooms and communities.
  • Use their knowledge about the socio-historical context that perpetuates inequities in schools and classrooms to make informed decisions, to confront stereotypical thinking, and to facilitate perspective changing.
