College Ties Can Ne'er Be Broken

Gathering together to celebrate and reminisce among friends and classmates, speaking to students groups, and volunteering to mentor are the best parts of being a Green Terror. In addition to signature events, the Alumni Engagement Office at McDaniel offers a variety of programming (virtual and in-person) throughout the year to engage alumni in the mission of our campus, connecting generations of Green Terrors. Let us know how you want to be involved - we cannot wait to hear from you!

Volunteer Opportunities

We work hard to create a variety of opportunities that allow you to maximize your talents and your time. We offer long and short-term volunteer opportunities and you can make an impact even with a limited time commitment. We encourage you to explore the many ways you can volunteer.

Class Reunion Volunteer

Class reunion committees are groups of proud, dedicated, and supportive alumni who are looking to help the Alumni Relations team to plan, organize, market, and execute a special gathering of as many members of your class as possible! All kinds of skills are needed, but the best skill is being loud and proud and helping us get the word out to as many of your classmates as possible to come back to the Hill and celebrate!

Dinner on the Town

Do you love to tell stories? Are you an excellent host? Do you cook incredible food? Do you have a favorite Westminster restaurant you frequent? Do you want to connect with a small group of current McDaniel students to share your stories and hear theirs? Every year our office connects alumni with a small group of current students for special dinners. Our alumni hosts invite students into their home for a meal or out in the area for dinner. We have more and more students who request this program, so we need more and more hosts! These evenings have been called the ‘most meaningful student-alumni program’ and ‘the best part about Student Alumni Council’ and ‘what makes me love McDaniel the most’, so help us bring tradition and school pride to more of our current students!

Networking/Professional Development Volunteer

Connecting our current students with successful alumni who have the ability to help with career advice, internship placement, networking skills, and professional development opportunities a vital component in the McDaniel Commitment. The Alumni Relations Office, in partnership with the Center for Experience and Opportunity, hosts a professional network of WMC/McDaniel alumni for student-alumni support as well as alumni-alumni peer networking. Volunteer activities could include one-time events like a Career Panel and on-going activities like mentorship of a current student interested in your profession.

Admissions Volunteer

Do you want every student planning for college to have McDaniel on their mind? If so, help us with alumni programs designed to help prospective students find their home on the Hill. Activities include attending on-campus programming to interact with admitted students and families, representing McDaniel on panels, regional events for admitted students, and outreach like handwritten notes or telephone calls.

Virtual/Regional Volunteer

No longer local? No problem! We have students and alumni all over the country. Help support your alma mater, alumni, and current students through virtual events and programming. The Alumni Relations Office plans events across the country so there are ways to give back from where you live.

Alumni Chapter Volunteer

The mission of our Alumni Chapters is to gather alumni with similar interests to promote and support McDaniel College. Chapters facilitate networking between alumni, current and prospective students, parents, faculty and staff, and the community at large.

Green & Gold Alumni Chapter Volunteer

Were you an athlete when you were on the Hill? If you want to connect with fellow athletes from your sport(s) and create events/programs that engage and support current student-athletes of that team, then this is for you. Each team is committed to creating or growing their Alumni Chapters.

General Volunteer

Not sure yet what or how you want to give back to the College, but you know you want to? That’s great! We love our alumni and we will connect with you to find out what opportunities might be best for you. We know that time is one of the most precious things a person can offer, so we hope to best utilize yours with something that means the most to you!

Student Programs Volunteer

Providing current students with program opportunities that connect them to alumni is vital for the preservation of College traditions and College pride. Volunteers for student programs will have events/initiatives available to them that facilitate student-alumni connections near and far.

Mentorship Volunteer Program

Being/having a mentor is one of the greatest and most valuable relationships someone can have in their personal and/or professional life. We are looking to build a mentorship program for our current students and our alumni. If you are interested in helping students with any of the following topics, this opportunity is for you. Mentor areas: first-generation student experiences, general college experiences, students of color experiences, life after college, professional development and tools, understanding the professional world, and applying/finding a job/career.

Philanthropy Team Volunteer

Are you interested in supporting the Annual Giving Office by spreading the word about the importance of philanthropy to your classmates? This opportunity allows you to help us educate our alumni about why making a gift every year makes the greatest difference in the lives of our current students.

Host an Event for Fellow Alumni

Would you be interested in hosting an event for fellow alumni at your home or place of work? We are always looking for hosts that will help us bring alumni together, near and far. By working directly with our office, we will coordinate the event with you and provide you with as much support as needed. The more events we have, the more our alumni have the chance to come together!

Keep in Touch Volunteer as a Class Reporter Contribute to The Hill

A long tradition for McDaniel College is The Hill alumni magazine and within the magazine is a Class Notes section. We love to hear about our alumni successes, fellow alumni gatherings, promotions, marriages, births and sadly, when alumni pass away. Most classes have their very own class reporter that volunteers their time to reach out, receive and compile the class notes into a full column.  Each class year is on a two-year rotation for their column in the Class Notes section of The Hill but if you want to send a note directly to your class reporter, please click on your class year and you can send them an email.

Giving Back as an Alumni

Join McDaniel’s growing network of alumni volunteers! Recruiting more volunteers is part of the college’s effort to build a vibrant alumni network and a great way to support McDaniel while staying connected with friends. Volunteering for McDaniel strengthens the bond you have with other alumni, with the college, and with current students. As you connect with other alumni and students from a wide range of backgrounds, regions and interests, you’re surrounded by the qualities and the people that make you proud to call McDaniel your alma mater.
