May 2020 Revised Move Out Process: Sent 05/11/2020

Attention McDaniel Residential Students:

We appreciate everyone’s patience regarding the residence hall move out process and we understand that many of you are anxious to recover your belongings. With the health and safety of everyone in mind, we are limiting the number of students who can move out of an individual building at one time. We hope that this reduces the likelihood of crossing paths with groups of people. Please contact the Office of Residence Life at (410) 857-2240 or at reslife@mcdaniel.edu if you have questions or would like to discuss an individual circumstance.

Residence hall move out begins on Monday, May 18, 2020 at 10:00am and goes through Friday, May 22, 2020. Please sign up for a move out time using the McDaniel College Spring 2020 Check Out Sign-Up. The move out process will continue until all students have had the opportunity to return to campus for their belongings.

**Residents of individual campus houses/Garden Apartments/North Village: The Residence Life Staff will continue to contact these residents about move out times. Residents of these areas do NOT sign up for move out time slots using the survey link above.

Below are the Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines to follow while on our campus:

  • We are advising anyone with fever, cough or respiratory symptoms resembling COVID-19 symptoms not to travel to campus.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a mask or cloth face cover when around others
  • Continue to keep about 6 feet between yourself and others. The cloth face cover is not a substitute for social distancing.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes; and
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

OPTION A:

For students who are able to come to campus:

Students and families are expected to adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Arrive to campus at the scheduled time and move all your belongings out of the residence hall.
  • As you arrive to campus, call 410-857-2237 to share with Residence Life staff that you have arrived to start moving out. If you connect with voicemail, please leave your name and information so staff checking messages can log your arrival.
  • Move your belongings out during the time you selected on the Checkout Sign-Up form. For everyone’s health and safety, the move out times are dispersed throughout each day to avoid having too many people in one location at the same time.
  • No more than 2 other individuals may accompany you to campus to move out of your room.
  • All individuals must wear face masks while on campus. We also advise you to wear gloves where possible.
  • The mailboxes are currently inaccessible due to construction in the College Center, but you can enter the building from the middle level near the Post Office and they will be open 9am-4pm. Please see information below about submitting your forwarding address information if you have not done so already.
  • Return your housing keys as well as any other campus issued keys in the envelope provided by Residence Life at one of the two key drop off locations: the Department of Campus Safety Office or the Physical Plant Building (192 Pennsylvania Ave.) key drop.

OPTION B:

For students who are unable to come to campus so a friend or family member will be coming to campus to move out the student’s belongings:

The student who is not able to return to campus should do the following:

  • Complete the McDaniel College Spring 2020 Check Out Sign-Up by 11:59pm the night before your chosen move out time. The form allows for you to identify someone and authorize College staff to allow them entry to your room.
  • The individuals coming to campus must wear a face mask while on campus and we also advise that they wear gloves.
  • When possible, provide your friend or family member with any College issued keys so the keys can be returned while they are on campus. If this is not possible, you must mail all College issued keys in your possession to the College at the following address:

    Office of Residence Life
    McDaniel College
    2 College Hill
    Westminster, MD 21157

When the friend or family member arrives, they should do the following:

  • Call the Residence Life Staff at (410) 857-2243 upon arrival to campus to share that they have arrived and arrange for staff to key them into the room if they do not have the student’s key(s).
  • Upon completing the move out process, return housing keys as well as any other college issued keys in the envelope provided by Residence Life at one of the two key drop off locations: the Department of Campus Safety Office or the Physical Plant Building (192 Pennsylvania Ave.) key drop.
