Beth Heckert Tevis '77 MEd '84 receives McDaniel Alumni Community Service Award

BETH HECKERT TEVIS RECEIVES ALUMNI COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD FROM McDANIEL COLLEGE

Tevis of Westminster, Md., graduated from the college with a bachelor’s degree in 1977 and a master’s degree in 1984

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Beth Heckert Tevis of Westminster, Md., has received the alumni community service award from McDaniel College. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English in 1977 and a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction in 1984.

Presented annually during McDaniel’s Homecoming, the alumni community service award is given to a graduate who has performed outstanding voluntary service to their community beyond normal business or professional obligations.

Tevis, who taught first grade at Westminster Elementary School and also taught courses in the education department at Western Maryland/McDaniel College for 17 years, is a board member and former board chair of the Boys and Girls Club of Westminster. She is also a past board member of the Carroll County Arts Council.

Along with her husband, Jack Tevis, and the Tevis family, she has been recognized as the “Good Scout of the Year” by the Boy Scouts of Carroll County in 2013, as well as Philanthropist of the Year by the Carroll Community Foundation in 2006.

She teaches Sunday school at the Westminster Church of the Brethren and is active in the McDaniel College Alumni Association.
