Juried Wentz exhibition showcases students’ best artwork

The annual Kathryn E. Wentz Juried Undergraduate Exhibition highlights the best artwork by students at McDaniel College. The exhibition runs April 3–13 in Rice Gallery, Peterson Hall. The opening reception is April 3 at 5:30–7:30 p.m. with a gallery talk at 6 p.m.

All students in the College’s department of Art and Art History are invited to submit up to five pieces of art that they have done while studying at McDaniel for inclusion in the exhibition.

Eight award winners are chosen for First, Second and Third places, as well as three honorable mentions, Best in Show and a Foundations award that is open to work done in Drawing One (Perceptual Drawing and Design). The awards are announced during the opening reception.

Jurors for the exhibition are artists and McDaniel alumnae chanan delivuk, who earned a bachelor’s degree from McDaniel in 2008, and Sara Caporaletti, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree from McDaniel in 2014.

Chanan Delivuk of Baltimore uses new media, including photography, video and audio, to create installations that focus on family, conversation and food. She describes herself as a “slum kid and a scholar.” Since graduating from McDaniel with a bachelor’s degree in 2008, she has gone on to earn a Master of Fine Arts degree in new media from George Washington University in 2010 and a Master of Fine Arts degree in intermedia and digital arts from UMBC in 2015. Sara Caporaletti of Damascus, Md., works in a variety of media, including drawing, painting, printmaking, video and audio, to examine her experience as a practicing Catholic. In addition to her bachelor’s degree from McDaniel, she received a Master of Fine Arts degree from American University in 2016. She has exhibited throughout Washington, D.C., and is currently an artist-in-residence at Wesley Theological Seminary’s Luce Center for the Arts and Religion in Washington D.C.
