Tuesday, September 15th through Thursday, October 15th marks the annual observance of National Hispanic Heritage Month. We invite all of you to join our faculty and staff in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with us by attending various programs sponsored by the Hispanic LatinX Alliance (HLA), the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Greetings McDaniel students,

I hope all of you are well! Tuesday, September 15th through Thursday, October 15th marks the annual observance of National Hispanic Heritage Month. This is accomplished by honoring and celebrating the histories, cultures, and contributions of people whose ancestors came from Spain, the Caribbean and various countries in Central and South America.

We invite all of you to join our faculty and staff in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with us by attending various programs sponsored by the Hispanic LatinX Alliance (HLA), the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

As part of the Hispanic Heritage Month kick-off, join ODEI and HLA in Red Square tonight at 6:30pm for a VERZUZ music challenge featuring various music artists.

From Monday, September 14th through Friday, October 16th, stop by the McDaniel Votes registration table near the Pub on the mid-level of the Roj Student Center. A representative will be there on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 11am-2pm and 5pm-7pm, as well as on Fridays, from 11am-2pm. This is sponsored by Hoover Library, OSE, ODEI, McDaniel Political Science Dept, and Carroll County League of Women Voters.

Get involved on campus

Join OSE for an engagement overview, Q&A, and break out room session to learn about getting involved on campus! Session 1 will be Wednesday, September 16th at 7pm and session 2 will be Monday, September 21st at 12pm. Links will be available on the McDaniel_OSE IG the day of!

Did you know that McDaniel offers free tutoring to all students?! The tutoring options for Session A of the Fall 2020 semester are now available and can be found on the Portal.

  2. Click on “Student Resources.”
  3. Click on “Tutoring.”

We will continue to update this list throughout Session A as more tutoring options become available. A new list of tutoring options will be published for Session B. As always, the Office of Academic Life (academiclife@mcdaniel.edu) is here to support you.

Participate in Sexish Week

“Sexish” is this week, Monday, September 14th through Friday, September 18th! If you virtually log into at least 3 events next week, you will be able to get a teal Sexish shirt, consent to-go cup, and other promo materials! Make the most of the virtual fair

Our fall job and internship fair has gone virtual! On Thursday, October 1st, from 2pm-5pm, network with representatives from Enterprise Holdings, T. Rowe Price, the Baltimore Orioles, UNUM online -- and that is just to name a few of the employers that will be available! Take the time to familiarize yourself with the virtual interview process and sign up for your time slot on Handshake. Email ceo@mcdaniel.edu with any questions.

First years: join this book discussion

Join the Director of the First Year Experience and OSE for our first Opt-In Common Read featuring the book With the Fire On High by Elizabeth Acevedo. Students interested in participating will read a few chapters a week and come together for discussions and activities. Books will be provided to the first 40 students! Sign up by emailing Amanda Gelber at agelber@mcdaniel.edu.

Also, the first student (even if you aren’t a first-year!) to email Amanda (agelber@mcdaniel.edu) with the word “cozy” wins a blanket.

Upcoming NAACP info sessions

The McDaniel NAACP Planning Committee, Carroll County NAACP Branch, and other civil rights leaders are having TWO virtual info sessions next week, on Monday, September 21st and Friday, September 25th, from 4pm-5pm for students to learn more about what the McDaniel NAACP Youth & College Chapter entails! Get your flu shot

The Wellness Center has partnered with Giant Pharmacy and is offering flu shots and immunization clinics throughout the semester. Clinics will take place in Klitzberg Pavilion (which is inside Gill Center) between 11am-2pm on 9/22, 10/7, 10/21, and 11/12. Contact the Wellness Center (wellness@mcdaniel.edu) with any questions.
