A Message from President Jasken on Supreme Court decision

President Jasken shared a response to the Supreme Court decision striking down racial and ethnic preferences in college admissions with the McDaniel community.

Baker Memorial Chapel (Big Baker)

Dear McDaniel Community,

Since news of yesterday’s Supreme Court decision striking down racial and ethnic preferences in college admissions, we have been working to understand the implications this ruling might have on ensuring our commitment to enrolling a diverse student body.

At McDaniel, our Admissions staff is trained in a holistic review that considers a wide variety of experiences, including a student’s GPA, out-of-class experiences, accomplishments, and more. This personalized approach provides the opportunity for our admissions counselors to really get to know each applicant.

Over the years, we have undertaken efforts to increase minority enrollment through building relationships with high schools and community-based organizations, developing The EDGE mentorship program, and, most importantly, reducing barriers to application. We will continue to look for ways to expand access in alignment with our mission.

McDaniel students benefit from learning in a diverse environment. We remain fully committed to providing underrepresented groups with equal access and opportunities.

Sincerely,

President Jasken
