Nine McDaniel College students receive Army ROTC Scholarships

Nine students have earned Army ROTC Scholarships. The scholarships, which are awarded based on scholastic, athletic and leadership attributes, cover full tuition and fees, plus additional funds for books, as well as a monthly living stipend. The students will be commissioned as second lieutenants and will be required to serve on active duty in the Army Reserve or National Guard upon graduating from McDaniel.

Nine McDaniel College students have earned Army ROTC Scholarships. Scholarships totaling nearly $1.3 million were awarded to the Green Terror Battalion.

Nine McDaniel students earned Army ROTC Scholarships this fall.

Each scholarship is awarded based on scholastic, athletic and leadership attributes and covers full tuition and fees, plus additional funds for books, as well as a monthly living stipend. The students will be commissioned as second lieutenants and will be required to serve on active duty in the Army Reserve or National Guard upon graduating from McDaniel.

Army ROTC has been a tradition at the college since 1919, and the Green Terror Battalion is one of the oldest ROTC programs in the nation. McDaniel has consistently been recognized among Military Friendly Schools and the college's Military Legacy Scholarship guarantees up to $100,000 over four years to all military veterans, active-duty military personnel and their children. McDaniel also participates in the Post-9/11 GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon Program.

The scholarship recipients include:

  • Brandon Bestany of Hicksville, N.Y., who has earned a three-year advanced designee Army ROTC Scholarship valued at $150,000.
  • Nathan Biddle of Easton, Md., who has earned a three-year advanced designee Army ROTC Scholarship valued at $150,000.
  • Jack Buckley of Marshfield, Mass., who has earned a three-year advanced designee Army ROTC Scholarship valued at $150,000.
  • Jack Conjelko of Odenton, Md., who has earned a three-year advanced designee Army ROTC Scholarship valued at $150,000.
  • Christopher Garnsey of Columbia, Md., who has earned a two-year Army ROTC Scholarship valued at $99,880.
  • Azagio Herd of Joppa, Md., who has earned a two-year Army ROTC Scholarship valued at $99,880.
  • Joshua Petruzzelli of Silver Spring, Md., who has earned a three-year advanced designee Army ROTC Scholarship valued at $150,000.
  • Tyren Proctor of Baltimore, who has earned a four-year green to gold Army ROTC Scholarship valued at $200,000.
  • Jennifer Robinson of Sicklerville, N.J., who has earned a two-year Army ROTC Scholarship valued at $99,880.
