Paul Hugus ‘06, MEd '09 receives Green Terror Sports Hall of Fame Award
PAUL HUGUS RECEIVES GREEN TERROR SPORTS HALL OF FAME AWARD FROM McDANIEL COLLEGE
Hugus of Columbia, Md., graduated from the college with a bachelor’s degree in 2006 and a master’s degree in 2009
WESTMINSTER, Md. – Paul Hugus of Columbia, Md., is a recipient of the Green Terror Sports Hall of Fame award from McDaniel College. He graduated from McDaniel with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 2006 and a master’s degree in education in 2009.
Presented annually during McDaniel’s Homecoming, the Green Terror Sports Hall of Fame award is presented to a graduate and former athlete who has performed outstandingly as an undergraduate athlete and who has contributed to society since leaving the college.
At McDaniel, Hugus was a member of the men’s cross country, indoor track and outdoor track teams. He is the only two-time qualifier in men’s cross country in the college’s history. He was a two-time All Centennial Conference runner in cross country and a two-time NCAA All Mideast performer.
He set multiple school records in track and field, including still standing records for the indoor 5,000-meter run and as a member of the indoor 4 x 800 relay team, as well as outdoors for the 10,000-meter run and as a member of the distance medley relay team.
Currently, he teaches math at River Hill High School in Clarksville, Md., where he also coaches the cross country and track teams. In 2016, 2015 and 2014, his boys cross country teams won state championships, and his girls cross country team took a state title in 2014. He has coached multiple individual and team state champions in both track and cross country.
