Calvert County Teacher of the Year William Voshell M.S. '23 has taught various social studies courses and is currently teaching both world history and AP World History at Calvert High School. Voshell, who credits two middle school teachers for sparking his interest in history, initially transitioned to teaching from the National Archives.

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Maryland, College Park, and obtaining his teacher certification from Loyola University Maryland, he moved to Calvert County in the mid-1990s, where he student-taught at Northern Middle School. He later taught at Northern High School before leaving the classroom to work in corporate America. After about a dozen years, he reconsidered his career direction and returned to teaching in 2014, first as a substitute, then full time. He obtained his graduate degree in 2023 from McDaniel in TESOL.

“Maybe teaching was where I was supposed to be,” Voshell told Southern Maryland News.
