U.S. Congressman Johnny Olszewski delivers Constitution Day lecture
McDaniel's Political Science department hosts a lecture featuring U.S. Congressman Johnny "Johnny O" Olszewski Jr. in celebration of Constitution Day on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m. in Coley Rice Lounge, McDaniel Hall. It is free and open to the public.

In celebration of Constitution Day, McDaniel's Political Science department hosts a lecture featuring U.S. Congressman Johnny Olszewski on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 6 p.m. in Coley Rice Lounge, McDaniel Hall.
Congressman Johnny “Johnny O” Olszewski Jr. serves Maryland’s 2nd Congressional District, which encompasses much of Baltimore County, Carroll County, and communities within Baltimore City. He was sworn into Congress in January 2025.
A lifelong Marylander and native of Baltimore County, Olszewski is deeply committed to public service and has a proven record of leadership, advocacy, and transformative governance.
He began his career as a public school teacher and served as a member of the Maryland House of Delegates for over nine years, earning the distinction as the youngest lawmaker ever to chair Baltimore County’s House delegation. Olszewski was elected as Baltimore County executive in 2018 and re-elected in 2022.
A graduate of Sparrows Point High School, he earned a bachelor's degree as a first-generation college student from Goucher College. He holds a master's degree from George Washington University and Ph.D. in Public Policy from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC).
Olszewski, along with Maryland’s U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Angela Alsobrooks, recently supported the awarding of $830,000 in Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) to McDaniel College for the purchase of technology and equipment for the McDaniel College Kahlert Nursing Education Center ("McDaniel College receives federal funding for new Nursing facility," Dec. 23, 2025).
Established in 2005, Constitution Day is celebrated annually in honor of the signing of the constitution on September 17, 1787.
