Parent and Family Weekend Friday, November 4 - Sunday, November 6

 

Join us for our reimagined weekend where parents and families can get to know the McDaniel community while spending quality time together. It’s a great weekend to make memories on the Hill and in downtown historic Westminster! Please register so we can prepare for you to join us for a fantastic weekend.

Campus Expo 3:00 - 4:00 p.m., Various Campus Locations

Your family is part of our family! Connect with your student and then explore the campus to meet faculty and staff in their academic areas of interest. Members from our student services teams will also be available to meet. #

Welcome Reception 4:30-5:30 p.m., Naganna Forum

Connect with other parents and families over light appetizers, beer, and wine at our welcome reception hosted by our Parent & Family Council. #

Dinner – On your own! 5:30 p.m., Englar Dining Hall or downtown Westminster

Enjoy time with your student and their friends at an all you can eat dinner in Englar Dining Hall for $18 per person (pay at the door) or go off campus and try one of the local restaurants in the heart of Westminster.

Black American Film Festival: Celebrating Voices of Love, History, & Freedom 7:30 p.m., Carroll Arts Center, 91 W. Main Street, Westminster

Head downtown Westminster to watch the 2021 film Ailey and stay for a post-show discussion facilitated by our very own Dr. Erin Watley (Assoc. Professor of Communication & Cinema). 

Alvin Ailey was a visionary artist who found salvation through dance. In this immersive portrait, told in his own words and through the creation of a new dance inspired by his life, Ailey fully profiles this brilliant and enigmatic man who, when confronted by a world that refused to embrace him, was determined to build one that would. 

This film is part of the Black American Film Festival, a celebration of Black storytelling with a special focus on stories that provide a dynamic perspective of Black experiences. All films are FREE with no tickets required.

Late Night Game Night with Breakfast 9:30 p.m. - midnight, Englar Dining Hall

Join your student in a long-standing McDaniel tradition—the Late Night Breakfast! The Office of Student Engagement will host game night featuring Bingo and Trivia. Students and their families are invited to join our friendly mascot for fun – complete with a pancake and waffle bar before heading to bed to catch some zzzzz’s. #

Ready, Set, Selfie! A Scavenger Hunt 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Campus & Downtown Locations

We’re your students’ home away from home – so, why don’t you get to know us in a different way? Learn more about McDaniel and Westminster in a scavenger hunt filled with fun surprises – be sure to submit those selfies! Detailed game instructions will be provided at check in.

Presidential Tailgate SOLD OUT! 12:30 p.m. - end of game Rembert Field in Gill Stadium

Join President Jasken and her husband Dave Colquhoun for a field side tailgate complete with cocktails and gameday food as the Green Terror get ready to take on the Gettysburg College Bullets. # $ Space is limited. $25 per person. Children under 12 are free.  (Everyone MUST register. McDaniel students are also $25.) 

This event is SOLD OUT. Please email alumni@mcdaniel.edu if you would like to be placed on a waitlist in case we receive cancellations. 

Football on the Hill 1:00 p.m., Gill Stadium

Our game day experience has been nationally ranked. So, grab a blanket and find a comfy spot on the Hill to cheer on our Green Terror football team. Concessions will be available for purchase on the concourse. And if you prefer, you can pack a picnic lunch for the game.

Now Hear THIS! 6:00-7:00 p.m., WMC Alumni Hall

Join us for special musical selections performed by the McDaniel College A Capella Ensemble and the Gospel Choir. Members from the cast of Radium Girls  will spotlight the show that opens on Nov. 17.  

Common Ground Downtown: Danny Paisley & the Southern Grass 7:30 p.m., Carroll Arts Center, 91 W. Main Street, Westminster

Danny Paisley and the Southern Grass play powerful, unadorned, and intense traditional bluegrass. There is no hybrid or genre-bending music here. Their combination of instrumentation and vocals convey the energy and emotion of classic bluegrass and country music. Danny’s lead vocals will captivate your senses, so much so that many prominent musicians, including Alison Krauss, have considered Danny as one of their favorite singers. His voice combines powerful range and soulful blues with a sound like no one else in bluegrass today. Tickets must be purchased online at via the Carroll County Arts Council. $24-$27 per person.

Start the day by joining our Green Terror for an early morning Green Terror Trot/Walk on our track.  

Masters of the Green (available Saturday and Sunday!)
9:00 a.m. – dusk
McDaniel College Golf Course

Squeeze in nine holes on our golf course that offers terrific views and challenging play for golfers at every skill level. Please call the Clubhouse at (410) 848-7667 to schedule a tee time. $ Green fees are free for students. Should a student choose to ride in a cart, the fee is $10. Guest fees: $14 to walk nine holes, $19 to ride nine holes, and $26 to ride 18 holes.
