Class of 2021: Faith Marie Young

Faith Marie Young is a Cinema major from Takoma Park, Maryland.

The me who will ring the Old Main bell on Commencement Day is: Someone who is excited to open a new chapter of her life.

Real world experiences: I had a wonderful opportunity to be one of the first fellows/interns for the Star Trek Command Training Program through the Television Academy. It was a very enriching and fun experience that has given me the information and tools that I need to start my career.

Professor who most influenced who I have become: Professor Jonathan Slade – he believed in my abilities and has pushed me to be the best creative/student/professional I could be.

My mentor. For life.: My wonderful mother, who has stood beside me every day and has taught me what it means to be resilient and to love life.

Best class ever: Basics of Art Conservation with Kateryna Dovgan. We had the opportunity to restore a 200-year-old tapestry as a class. It was a very hands-on and collaborative experience that taught me so much about the conservation and restoration of art. Professor Dovgan’s passion for the class resonated with me and made it even more fun!

My favorite spot on campus: DMC 4th floor facing Rouzer because the sunset looks the best from there.

My capstone: A 20-minute short film titled “Space Junk”

What it’s about: “Space Junk” is a science fiction film about about a young woman who finds a mysterious object in the woods.

What’s next: Get to work, as well as travel while I’m still young!
